The album

In 1996 a compilation album was released with selections from Eric Serra's filmscores. Nineteen tracks provide for over 71 minutes of music from films like Le Dernier Combat, Subway, Kamikaze, Le Grand Blue, Nikita, Atlantis, Leon and Goldeneye.

The music

 

There's no new music on this album, but quite a few tracks could be of interest: The music from Le Dernier Combat was only released on a very rare LP, and both included tracks were remixed and have rerecorded parts. The Kamikaze CD is very rare as well, so the two tracks that are included here are a rare chance for many to catch a glimbse of that score. Also the "Hey Little Angel" song is not on all Leon albums as it was only a bonus track.

Strangely this compilation seems to prefer songs over famous instrumental film score pieces. Probably a marketing decision, but consider who buys Serra for his songs? The omissions of for instance "The Fight part 3" from Leon and "Learning Time" from "Nikita" are unforgivable.

Shortly after the release of "The Fifth Element", a movie which turned out ot be a huge international commercial succes, Virgin released a new version of this compilation album, with two additional tracks from the Fifth Element soundtrack album. One of them was a remix of the Diva Dance track, a version which otherwise could only be obtained on the track's CD singles. "Let Them Try" from The Big Blue however had to make way for the new tracks.
