ATLANTIS

The film

Atlantis is after "le Grand Blue" Luc Besson's second film showing his love for life under water. It's a remarcable feature film, showing only fish and other deep sea creatures, choreographed by editting and clever filming. They perform a hypnotic show of beauty and mystery. With no dialogue or actors to keep the scenery alive, the music has taken over the role of storyteller and driving motive of the film.

The music

Since the music alternates between orchestral and choral passages, pop songs (with Vanessa Paradis on track 10) and new age tracks it's surprising that the album is this coherent. But with the music having such a main role in the film and since it was written to be heard continuesly, the result on the CD is more complete and fluently paced than the average soundtrack album.

The total length of the album is a little over 61 minutes, so to ensure proper audio quality the LP version was issued as a double LP set.

Special releases

Virgin released two special versions of the album. First off there is a special collectors box. It comes in a nice big carboard box, and inside are various pictures including a worldmap of shooting locations for the film. Also included are two pins, one of a red logo of the film, the other of a dolphin. The CD looks like the regular release. (Virgin, 30871 for the box containing Virgin, 30867 for the CD)

There also was a limited release version, that came in a peculiar clothed CD package.
